They just made impulse shopping a whole lot easier.

Potentially, today’s announcement by Twitter and Amazon could be very big news for both companies. In a major link up, you can now add products to your Amazon basket just by using a special hashtag on Twitter. The items will then be there to buy the next time you log into Amazon.

Here’s how it will work. If a tweet contains an Amazon link to a product all you have to do is reply to the tweet and use the hashtag #AmazonBasket (#AmazonCart in the US). The item will then automatically be added to your cart, once you have added your Twitter details to your Amazon account.

The video below explains it all. Sure, you could still favourite the tweet that you saw to remind yourself to buy that game or DVD but this cuts straight to the chase.

It is only available in the US and UK so far but as we all use the UK site in Ireland it should be available to us too. Expect to see a lot more Amazon links in your timeline

For Amazon this could make them the retailer of choice for Twitter, which would be a massive market to have, while it makes Twitter a shopping portal, a new string to its bow which may drive up users.
