We’re in a recession, right? Well according to the front pages of all the national papers this morning our little country, with its crippled economy, is set to bail out Greece to the tune of €1.3 billion.

The Irish Times runs with ‘Euro zone to release €110bn in emergency aid to Greece.’ Yes you can shake your head repeatedly, that is a pretty big figure. It means all o f the 16 Euro Zone countries and the International Monetary Fund will have a whip-around for Greece, they are in dire financial straits after all. The thinking behind all of this is to keep the countries in the Euro Zone “safe-guarded” – Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan’s words.

The Examiner also highlights the exorbitant loan to Greece but a photograph of a youngster and his mother signing a book of condolence for the Late Gerry Ryan takes up the primary slot. The headline reads: ‘Postmortem to delay Gerry Ryan funeral.’ A nation looks on with sadness and the mourning is widespread already however the funeral “is unlikely to take place before Thursday”. Seemingly, a Bank Holiday weekend delays a post-mortem.

The Irish Independent carries both of the aforementioned stories and notes also that Gerry Ryan will be waked by his family and friends early this week. However an interesting piece goes like this on the front page of the Indo. ‘South Park link to New York bomb’. Yes they do mean the controversial TV series, ‘South Park’. Police are investigating a possible target of the makers of the show surrounding a failed car bomb in Times Square. The depiction of the prophet Mohammed on the animated show has said to have caused a stir in the Muslim community.
