Main event: Dermot's Big Fat Comedy Gala 2011, Channel 4, 10.00pm

Dermot O'Leary goes behind the scenes of this year's Comedy Gala in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. There the X Factor host meets Lee Evans, Michael McIntyre, Sarah Millican, Alan Carr and Jonathan Ross backstage at London's O2 arena.

Movie pick: A History of Violence, RTE Two, 9.00pm

A mild-mannered man becomes a local hero through an act of violence, which sets off repercussions that will shake his family to its very core. Possibly the mainstream release from director David Cronenberg, this is a hugely tense drama that occasionally explodes into unflinching acts of cinematic violence.

Look out for an excellent performance from William Hurt, who reiceved a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination despite being on-screen for around 10 minutes. It was hugely deserved too.

More TV: Rubicon, BBC4, 10.00pm

Rubicon received a subdued reponse when it arrived in the US last year but is still worth a watch considering that it's from the channel that brought us Mad Men (AMC) and is high-brow, intelligent entertainment.

Tonight, Will meets Katherine to discuss her husband's connection to Truxton Spangler and API - but their covert rendezvous has frightening consequences.
