5 of the best…horse burger jokes

So hungry you could eat a horse? Well, the problem is that you might have done just that.

Since the story about the horse burgers on sale in Irish supermarkets broke earlier tonight, the social media platforms have gone mad with the news that we might have been eating horseburgers without knowing it.

As usual the internet has balanced outrage with comedy, and some of the responses have been pure gold.

The pun makers have been quick out of the traps, and we've been guilty ourselves, we must admit.

That said though, when a story like this breaks, you can't look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to using up your stable of horse jokes. We have made most of ours on the hoof though.

The best that the social media world has to offer though has been pretty good, as Twitter and Facebook have been coming up with some priceless stuff, so we have a few notable contenders for the title of best horse burger tweet:

In particular though, we did love this one from John McCabe, who effortlessly linked this scandal to the brilliant Kerrygold ad from back in the day. We salute you, sir.

This one on our Facebook wall made us chuckle out loud, it must be said:

If you know anything about JOE, then you'll know we love The Simpsons, and as with any situation in life, there's a classic scene to remind us how great the show really was in its hay day. Hat tip to Seosamh Hurley for posting it on our wall under the heading "Meanwhile, at Tesco farms".

Martin does of course raise a great point: “sir, why don't you just use real cows?”. That is truly what we're all left wondering after this news.

We reckon this will run for a while, there'll be so many puns that our throats will be hoarse from laughing.
