Ah here; there might be tornadoes in Ireland tomorrow

Our shorts, sandals and sunglasses will be no use to us if this weather forecast turns out to be true.

Our shorts, sandals and sunglasses will be no use to us if this weather forecast turns out to be true.

Okay, at least it’s not a sharknado but the forecast for tomorrow by the European Storm Forecast Experiment (ESFE) is not good, not good at all.

They are predicting that Ireland has a Level 1 chance of getting hit with a tornado, which means the odds are between five and 15 per cent that a ‘severe convective storm’ will hit us.

Those cheery chaps at the ESFE are also predicting that we could have heavy rain, hail and severe gusts too. Great news for anyone heading to see Blur tomorrow night.

Our own forecasters, Met Eireann, are sticking with just a heavy rain warning for now. For once, we hope that they are right and that a whirlwind of pain doesn’t hit us in the morning.

We can safely say that Summer 2013 has taken a turn for the worse if it does.
