Fulham chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed has blasted Fulham fans who have criticised the statue of Michael Jackson outside Craven Cottage.
Al Fayed, a close personal friend of Jackson before his death in July 2009, unveiled a statue of the former King of Pop prior to the Cottagers’ 3-0 victory over Blackpool yesterday and sang and danced to Jackson tunes with some Fulham supporters.
Other supporters of the West London side questioned the decision to erect the statue - which was originally meant to be located at Al-Fayed’s Harrods store before the wealthy pensioner decided to sell it, outside the ground, but Al-Fayed launched a blistering attack on the statue’s detractors.
“Fulham fans will love it, if some stupid fans don’t appreciate such a gift they can go to hell,” he said. (see more on the rant in the clip below)
“If they don’t believe in the things I believe in they can go to Chelsea, they can go anywhere.”
The controversy over the statue had little effect on Mark Hughes’ side, who went on to claim a facile 3-0 victory over the Tangerines, a result that will go a long way to confirming their Premier League status for next season.
