Ben Affleck's political thriller about the start of the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979 has scooped the award for best film at the Producers Guild Awards.
By Adrian Collins
Ben Affleck came away with an award for his film Argo last night as he and his producer buddies George Clooney and Grant Heslov won the Daryl F. Zanuck award, given for the best production in a motion picture.
The Screen Actors Guild will also hand out their awards tonight, and Affleck may need to clear more room on the mantelpiece should his film win Best Ensemble.
According to the Huffington Post, the film that wins the Producers Guild award for best picture has normally gone on to win the Oscar, doing so 17 times in the last 24 years, so this can often be used as a good thermometer as to how the voting for the coveted best picture award at the Oscars will go.
Still, there are some great films up for the Oscar, and Lincoln will surely still be a favourite to scoop the statue come the awards ceremony on February 24th this year.
