Bad buzz in Kerry as locals are terrorised by swarm of flies

There was a major bad buzz down in County Kerry last week as a massive swarm of flies horrified the residents of Tralee. Where did all the flies come from? Who knows, but the county council is flat out denying that they are to blame…

The Irish Daily Star reports that businesses and homeowners had to endure “biblical proportions” of flies as they swarmed into the town. We should probably mention that just before the flies arrived, the council had carried out some moving works at a local landfill.

Hmm…now, call us crazy but don’t flies enjoy living in landfills? So if someone was to disturb them, they would probably leave their home and find somewhere else to live…

But it’s not the council’s fault…

Anyway, restaurants in the area had to shut their doors and fumigate their premises to get rid of the nasty little buggers and stocks of fly spray sold out faster than the shops could keep it on the shelves. Disgustingly enough, reports of food poisoning also soared after the swarm swooped in last Wednesday.

Locals were quick to point the finger at work being carried out by Kerry County Council at Muingnaminnane landfill, which is none miles north-east of Tralee.

However, the council has blatantly denied any part in the incident stating that while large numbers of flies were accidentally released, they only caused a localised problem. So any swarm in Tralee was nothing to do with them and was simply the result of the warm weather. Sounds legit, right?

“It was horrendous at times. I had to go out and spend €400 on an electric fly killer,” said a local businessman.

Another local who lives within a mile of the landfill at Muingnaminnane described the situation as “horrific.”

If you’re planning on going to Tralee any time soon, you might want to make sure you're prepped with some very strong fly spray...
