Barcelona president Sandro Rosell resigns

The president of Barcelona has decided to step aside amid a court case to investigate the signing of Neymar.

Sandro Rosell has decided that the pressure is too great on his position after a court in Madrid confirmed that they would be launching a formal investigation into the full cost of the transfer and that there may be differing versions of the contract in existence, according to ESPN. The now former club president called an emergency meeting with members of the board of directors earlier today, before bringing all of the directors and board members together this afternoon at around 6pm (Spanish time) to present his resignation, and held a press conference with the media immediately afterwards. He told the assembled journalists that 'my time at Barca has come to an end' and that 'it's been a privilege to be president of Barcelona'. Vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu (above) will take over until 2016, however Jordi Cases, the Barcelona member who first took this case to court, has stated that he also believes Bartomeu is involved, and he may have a case to answer as well.
