Brilliant Facebook response from Didier Drogba to racist abuse from Fenerbahce

The Galatasaray striker was subjected to disgraceful chanting and abuse from Fenerbahce supporters during the Istanbul derby, a game which Galatasaray lost 2-1 though the league title has already been wrapped up.

Several home supporters were photographed waving bananas or, more madly, wearing black bin bags over their heads whilst holding “Negro” cookies in the air. Amazingly, no action seems to have been taken during the game itself though there has been some stinging criticism for the club in the aftermath and rightly so.

Drogba took to the club’s official Facebook page to have his say on the matter, and whatever your take on him as a footballer, you have to have the utmost respect for his dignified response to the disgusting abuse he suffered at the weekend.

Only posted late last night, it had more than 50,000 likes by early morning and highlights the shameful behaviour of the Fenerbahce supporters, with pictures of their actions shown on the page.

Fair play to Drogba and we just hope it will go even a small way to addressing the issue which shows little sign of improvement in Turkey in particular.
