Bad news if you’re not the biggest fan of wasps. Actually, if you hate the pesky little buggers, you should probably look away now. Why? Well apparently we could be facing an invasion. Bad buzz, right?
The Irish Daily Star reports that pest control experts have warned the Irish public to be vigilant about the annoying stingy tormentors as hordes of them could start swarming our way over the next few weeks.
What is causing this potential black and yellow invasion? Well according to bug experts, the recent warm weather can lead to a spike in wasp numbers – and it doesn’t matter that our warm weather was quickly replaced by wintery conditions.
Apparently hot, sunny weather wakes up wasp queens who are currently going about their business and laying thousands of wasp eggs. Lovely. Because the wasp queens have woken up earlier than usual, this will give them more time to lay more and more eggs, which will result in more and more wasps over the summer months. Great.
If you were wondering why there were so many wasps last summer, it’s all down to the fact that a similar situation occurred.
“The phenomenon happened last year because they had such a good head start,” said one pest controller.
Wasp stings can be fatal if the victim is allergic to their venom and wasps can sting repeatedly before they die if you really make them angry.
What’s the best way to avoid wasps this summer? Well don’t wear any bright colours, make sure you don’t drink any sweet drinks or eat any sugary food outdoors, oh and if your girlfriend enjoys wearing perfume, break all her bottles now.
If you’re really nervous about wasps, it’s probably a good idea to get yourself online and invest in a bee-keepers suit. Or, failing that, you can just close all the windows and doors in your home and stay indoors for the entire season.
