Disgruntled Arsenal fans may no longer have to boo Andrei Arshavin when he runs onto the pitch to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as the Russian international captain could be off to Anzhi.
According to Sky Sports, mega-rich Anzhi Makhackala, home of Samuel Eto'o and former Chelsea signing Yuri Zhirkov, are currently in preliminary talks with the Arsenal winger.
Though Arshavin is currently contracted at Arsenal until the summer of 2013, it is possible that the Russian captain may be willing to move in order to ensure he remains top of the pecking order for Russia's Euro 2012 squad. In recent weeks the 30-year-old has lot his starting place in Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side due to an ongoing drop in form.
Arshavin was a January transfer window signing for Arsenal since 2009 after joining for a club-record fee of £15 million. Despite a bright start, including a four-masterclass against Liverpool in the same season, the player has since flattered to deceive.
If Arshavin does his pack his bags today, it is possible that Arsenal will once again move for long-term target Salomon Kalou of Chelsea, who is currently starring for the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
