Fergie was given a cake at his final press conference today. A hairdryer cake

He’s given plenty of members of the press a blast over the years so it was perhaps fitting that the cake given to Alex Ferguson by members of the media this morning had a hairdryer on it.

He’s given plenty of members of the press a blast over the years so it was perhaps fitting that the cake given to Alex Ferguson by members of the media this morning had a hairdryer on it.

The Manchester United manager was delivering his last pre-game press conference before heading off into retirement this morning and despite some savage treatment at his hands over the years, members of the media were good enough to give him with a cake with a hairdryer on it.

The cake was presented to Fergie by Neil Custis of The Sun and replicated the front page of the paper following news of Fergie’s retirement last week.

By all accounts, Fergie was in jovial form throughout the press conference and had the following to say about this tasty gift.

“It’s fully deserved.

“There have been some times when I have not agreed with what people have written and when you write positive things I tend to dismiss them.

“But I have never held a grudge. It is not my style.”

Many of the journalists banned from United’s training ground over the years would surely beg to differ with that last remark but viciously angry as he could be with the media at times, they’ll probably miss him when he’s gone.
