First O’Driscoll, now Kieran Donaghy, who’s next? Star axed from Kerry team for Munster Final

It’s hardly the most high-profile sporting dropping of the day, but Kieran Donaghy not making the Kerry starting team for the Munster Final against Cork is still a big deal.

It’s hardly the most high-profile sporting dropping of the day, but Kieran Donaghy not making the Kerry starting team for the Munster Final against Cork is still a big deal.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice has left ‘Star’ out of the starting line-up for the meeting with old rivals Cork in Killarney on Sunday, with Darran O’Sullivan coming into the full-forward line alongside Declan O’Sullivan and James O’Donoghue and Colm Cooper continuing in a playmaking role at centre-forward.

There are two further changes in the Kingdom side from the facile victory over Waterford last time out, with Mark Griffin coming in at full-back instead of the injured Aidan O’Mahony and Shane Enright starting at corner back ahead of Fionn Fitzgerald.

While Donaghy’s omission is big news it also serves to illustrate the depth of talent available in the Kerry forward division and the prospect of Donaghy coming off the bench with a point to prove must be an ominous one for Cork followers.

Kerry team to play Cork: Brendan Kealy, Marc Ó Sé, Mark Griffin, Shane Enright, Tomás Ó Sé, Killian Young, Peter Crowley, Anthony Maher, Johnny Buckley, Paul Galvin, Colm Cooper, Donnchadh Walsh, Darran O’Sullivan, Declan O’Sullivan, James O’Donoghue
