Ireland might once have been known as an island of prudes, but that is no longer the case if a Durex survey is to be believed.
Attitudes towards sex have become increasingly liberal on these shores in recent times, maybe even a little too liberal for some people tastes after a Durex survey revealed that one in eight Irish men have admitted to making an erotic home video with their partner.
The results of the survey, published in today’s Irish Daily Star, offer some surprising (one in nine men admitting to a penchant for bondage) and not so surprising (64 per cent of men enjoy watching porn alone) insights into the sex lives of Irish people.
Elsewhere in the survey, it was revealed that 31 per cent of men and 24 per cent of women have been unfaithful to their partner (or were at least willing to anonymously admit it), while 20 per cent of Irish men and women have had sex with only one partner.
Four per cent of the incredibly lucky or incredibly exaggerating people surveyed claim to have had sex with between 21 and 30 different partners, with the majority of those surveyed (51 per cent) admitting to have had sex with between two and ten different partners.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the survey was the revelation into the number of people who make their own home movies, highlighting the potential for a porn industry in Ireland that previously didn’t extend much beyond the exploits of former Wexford hurler Greg Jacob.
In fact, to elaborate on the Jacob example, if the one in eight ratio was applied to GAA clubs across the country, you would have approximately two to three wannabe Greg Jacobs in every parish.
Something for you to think about the next time you head into the dressing room, eh?
