The participants in next month’s Super Bowl were decided yesterday in two absolute classic games. The best bits are here in case you missed them.
There are many people you don’t want to be this morning. Mitt Romney and that guy in the court case over his face on YouTube are two but you really, really don’t want to be Baltimore Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff.
After a pulsating game between his team and the New England Patriots, Cundiff had a 32-yard kick to send the game to overtime. He missed. He was immediately linked with Ray Finkle from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. It was that bad. Check it out for yourself below.
So with Tom Brady waiting to play his fifth Super Bowl, who would he face, the New York Giants or the San Francisco 49ers?
Played in conditions akin to a miserable National League match in March, it was another classic, and maybe 49er Kyle Williams will be putting in a call to Cundiff so both can console each other.
Williams will be on the hook for the 49ers loss because he committed two errors. Firstly he touched a punt in the fourth quarter, giving the ball back to New York who duly scored a TD.
Then in OT he fumbled to present the winning field goal chance to the Giants.
Both Williams and Cundiff will be remembered for a long time but the Pats and the Giants probably deserved their wins and we now have rematch of Super Bowl XLII, won by New York. Super Bowl XLVI should be good but it will have to go some way to beat what we saw yesterday for drama.
