Is Carlos Tevez about to make a surprise comeback for Manchester City?

We never thought it would happen but it seems that Carlos Tevez will play for Manchester City again.

It seems that Roberto Mancini has mellowed his stance towards the absent Argentinian and he is now prepared to talk with Tevez and get him back on the pitch.

“Carlos can change a lot of games” Mancini is quoted as saying in today’s Mail on Sunday. “If he comes back next week, maybe he can help us in the last three months. I don't know if he is in good condition or not. I don't think so because he hasn't played for four months. But Carlos recovers strength very quickly.

"Carlos knows the situation. If he comes back, we talk. Why not? I don't have a problem.”

That is somewhat of a surprise considering that for many months after Tevez refused to take the pitch against Bayern Munich Mancini would not even speak about his missing striker.

But two things may have changed the situation. The first is that Manchester City have stumbled a little in their title chase and a striker of Tevez’ calibre would help in their final push.

Secondly, the massive fines that Tevez faces, reported to be in the region of £9million, could perhaps be reduced if Tevez agreed to come back and play for the remainder of the season.

Certainly Mancini hinted that Tevez could have helped their title push if he had been in the team all season.

“Everyone knows Tevez is a top player and it probably would have been better for us if he'd been here," admitted Mancini.

“We've played a lot of games with only one fit striker and against Everton in our last away game, we couldn't make any changes from the bench.”

It sounds to us that reality has it home and that a cease-fire between the player and the club is now in the club’s interest.

But if Tevez came back now would the fans welcome him? They might if he helped them win the title.
