It has been tortuous. Painful even. The football world has been a dull and dark place without him. Yes we have had the Carlos Tevez affair, the Cesc Fabregas affair and the Ryan Giggs affair affair, but they didn’t fill the gap in our lives that Roy Keane left.
Since he departed Ipswich in January this year, we have wandered the back streets of football looking for news of his return and now we grow heartened by the sight of Roy topping the market in the race to take over at Nottingham Forest.
Now we know that next manager markets are more volatile than Charlie Sheen on acid but there has to be some truth to it. And it makes sense, taking over at the club that he started his career in England.
And while it didn’t click for him at Ipswich, he romped through the Championship while at Sunderland. We also see that the Blackburn seat, still occupied by Steve Kean, is being linked as another destination for the Cork man but replacing Steve McLaren seems more likely.
It could be a disaster, it could be brilliant, but it certainly won’t be boring and that is enough for us.
