Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has defended his £35m man Andy Carroll after Fabio Capello publicly admonished the player's fitness and lifestyle.
"His fitness would stand up against anybody's," said Dalglish after the England manager claimed that if the 22-year-old "wants to be a good player he needs to drink less than the others." Capello had also said that the striker "is not at the top of his form at the moment."
"I don't think his lifestyle is anything like you want it to be to write a story, said the Reds boss.
"Andy was not properly fit last season because of a knee injury. We are pleased with his fitness this season because he's lost that injury."
Carroll made a brief appearence in England's unconvincing 1-0 victory over Wales in the mid-week Euro 2012 qualifying ties and despite Capello's public criticism, Dalglish believes the player can learn from the Italian.
"I think Andy is very appreciative of advice from anyone who has a good standing in football," said Dalglish.
"I think he appreciates Fabio Capello's advice because he has great respect for Fabio Capello and I think Fabio Capello has great respect for Andy Carroll."
