Kevin Doyle to Celtic, Manchester United to make third bid for Fabregas and Arsenal’s new targets

We’re delighted to see the Wexford man’s name appear in the rumours. Now, we just need him to actually leave Wolves.

It was only yesterday that we were bemoaning the fact that very few Irish players had made what you would call ‘upward’ moves in the closed season so far. Now, thankfully, one of our favourite players, who slipped into the third tier of English football last season, might be making a move up.

Between injury, and loss of form, Kevin Doyle has slipped out of the national team reckoning but the striker was once an automatic first choice for Ireland and, at 29, he surely has a few years at a decent level left in him.

Celtic think so too as according to The Sun, they fancy bringing Doyle in to replace Gary Hooper, who is probably on his way out the door.

Doyle has been linked with Swansea and West Ham too but the lure of Champions League football surely makes Parkhead more appealing.

Aside from Doyle, the big news is, again, all about Manchester United and their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas. The Mirror report that after a second bid was rejected last night, United will now offer £34 million in a third and final attempt to nab the Spaniard.

However, the Express report it will cost United £40m to get the former Arsenal man while the Sun report that Barca have told them where to go and that really, honestly, for sure this time, the midfielder is not for sale. We doubt that’s the end of it though.

And another saga that will run and run until August 31 is the future of Gareth Bale. The Times report that Manchester United will make a bid to get him this summer, designed to ‘underline’ the club’s support of David Moyes. Would have thought giving him the job would have demonstrated that.

As for Fabregas’s former club, Arsenal’s fruitless search for new blood continues. The Mirror report that Arsene Wenger might be about to ‘test Liverpool’s resolve’ and lob in a £40m bid for Luis Suarez but a few new names are linked with the Gunners today.

The Star report Wenger may make a £30m move for Benfica winger Salvio, while Brazilian international Bernard, current a team-mate of Ronaldinho at Atletico Miniero, is being eyed up for a £21m bid. We’ll believe it when we see it when it comes to Arsenal splashing the cash.

Spurs are still in hot pursuit of Roberto Soldado, according to everybody, but the Mirror adds that Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez is also on AVB’s wanted list.

Finally, in the least interesting bit of transfer tittle tattle ever, Liam Ridgewell might be about to move from West Brom to Fulham. Let’s hope they don’t pay with cash, or God knows that will happen
