A man lost his life last night after falling into the River Liffey in Dublin city centre.
A massive emergency operation was sparked after two men entered the river in two separate incidents.
The first man was rescued by emergency services at around 10.20pm last night. He was rescued from the water close to the Ha’penny Bridge and was arrested by Gardai.
The second incident did not end in similar circumstances, however, as the victim in his early 20s fell into the river at the Talbot Memorial Bridge near Custom House Quay at around 11.10pm.
After being rushed to the Mater Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
The emergency operation involved three fire engines, as well as ambulances and numerous Gardai.
