Jamie Bazley, a Manchester United fan, was stopped by police entering St. James’ Park in Newcastle a few weeks ago and found to be possessing an unopened can of lager in his bag.

He was cautioned by the police, but when United found out, they sent him a strongly-worded letter explaining that because of the incident, he would be banned indefinitely from travelling to all away games home and abroad.

Bazley has pleaded his innocence, saying that he didn’t realise the can was in the bag and that he thought he had finished all of his cans on the way to the game. This didn’t wash with United, who penned the letter upon hearing about the incident from the police. Obviously, Bazley wasn’t one bit happy and took to Twitter to vent his spleen. Beware of the un-parliamentary language below.

It does seem harsh to acquire a life-time ban over one can, but rules are there to be enforced we suppose. I guess we’re hoping that his appeal is successful and that this was an innocent mistake. The lesson here folks is, make sure you drink ALL your cans before heading into a stadium.
