Down manager James McCartan is staying put for at least another season to right the wrongs of 2011.

There had been much speculation about McCartan’s future in charge but the Down county board have confirmed the former Mourne attacker will not be stepping down.

However, there has been a shake-up in the backroom team with Jerome Johnston and Aidan O'Rourke coming on board as selectors, while Amy Davis has been appointed as a strength and conditioning coach.

Both Brian McIver and Paddy Tally, who have been selectors for the past two seasons, will not be continuing in their roles.

A statement read: "Coiste Chontae An Dúin wish to place on record their sincere thanks to Brian McIver and Paddy Tally for the work over the past two years that they undertook with the Down Senior Football Panel.

"Down Football is in a much better position thanks to the good work of Brian and Paddy. We wish them well in the future and assure them that their work with the Down Senior Football Team in 2010 and 2011 is much appreciated by all in Down."

McCartan will be looking to rekindle the form of 2010 which saw Down reach an All-Ireland final and come back stronger from their exit from this year’s Championship in the qualifiers after defeat to Cork.
