The word maligned probably doesn’t cover the general feeling towards Arsenal frontman Nicklas Bendtner and he did little to change that perception tonight.
The Gunners were dumped out of the Capital One Cup tonight following a terrible defensive mix-up for the opening goal and a classy finish from Juan Mata as Jose Mourinho continues his hoodoo over Arsene Wenger, but Bendtner was afforded the opportunity to show that he has something to offer the club.
However he made very little contribution to the game and looked to be short of any confidence – normally a strength of his – and will probably be best remembered for his fetching haircut and did not even see out the full game.
The online reaction was both predictable and humerous.

“Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have seen enough of Nicklas Bendtner tonight.” Not sure he needed to add “tonight.”

Nicklas Bendtner collected ten Kellogg’s tokens to win a career at Arsenal.

Martin Tyler didn’t finish his sentence. “Nicklas Bendtner’s done his best but…” His best is notoriously poor?
