US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are to attend a free concert marking their visit in College Green in Dublin next Monday.
Taoiseach End Kenny confirmed last night that a ‘public celebration’ of the historic visit will take place on Monday afternoon and will be free to all people who wish to attend.
As well as what will no doubt be a typically rousing and well delivered speech by renowned orator Obama, the concert will also feature entertainment from a line-up of well-known Irish artists, which is rumoured to include, somewhat inevitably, Jedward.
The event will follow Obama’s visit to his ancestral home in Moneygall, County Offaly and a reception with Irish President Mary McAleese at Áras an Úachtaráin.
Patrons will be allowed enter the area from 2pm on Monday and have been asked to enter at the security gates at the junction of Dame Street and Parliament Street.
Fans will be allowed to use cameras and mobile phones at the event, but signage, food and beverages will not be permitted and further details will be released closer to the event.
As far as motorists and commuters in the capital are concerned, Obama’s visit is a flying one, meaning that Dublin City should avoid being subject to the traffic chaos that coincided with the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to our shores this week.
