Gilbert Arenas is joking about ‘doing a Liam Ridgewell’, right?
While many of us might think that a lot of Premier League footballers are overpaid, they are in the ha’penny place compared to some of the lads in the United States. Thanks to some very generous contract terms, some players in the major US sports, especially in basketball and baseball, earn vast sums, even if they don’t play at all.
One of the most overpaid, in relation to his on-court production is Gilbert Arenas. A 10-year veteran of the NBA, Arenas signed a monster $111 million six-year deal with the Washington Wizards in 2008. During the 2009 season, Arenas was suspended for bringing a gun to the locker room (yep) and after a move to the Orlando Magic, and the Memphis Grizzlies, didn’t work out, he spent most of last season playing in China.
It is a shame as he was superb in his first few season in the NBA, and a three-time All Star but at 31 it looks like his best days may be behind now and he is unlikely to feature for any NBA team this season.
But he isn’t exactly struggling for cash, if this picture he posted on Instagram is anything to go by.
At least he didn’t go ‘full Ridgewell’
