Pic: Looks like the Queen turned down the chance to take in Leitrim v London this weekend

Like many a fair-weather fan, she’s waiting until her team are within touching distance of silverware until she’ll go and watch them in the flesh it seems.

Like many a fair-weather fan, she’s waiting until her team are within touching distance of silverware until she’ll go and watch them in the flesh it seems.

Thousands of fans will turn up in Carrick-on-Shannon for what is a somewhat novel Connacht semi-final between Leitrim and London this weekend and although there will be quite a few travelling from across the water, a woman who would certainly be classed as the Exiles’ most famous supporter unfortunately won’t be making the trip.

That’s in spite of the best efforts of Councillor John Stenson and John Dolan of the Leitrim Tourist Board, who, on the evidence of a letter that made its way into us on Twitter overnight, approached Buckingham Palace to invite the Queen along to the game this weekend, but were met with the following response.

Having watched Estimate romp home to victory at Royal Ascot earlier in the week, it seems as if the Queen has had her fill of live sport for the time being, but let it not be said that she has never attended a London game in the past, as she was spotted in Ruislip during the corresponding Championship game between the sides last year.

Hat-tip to Enda Tiernan for sending this one into us
