Pic: One Brazilian paper was very generous with its player ratings after last night’s final

JOE

It was a big night for Brazilian football last night, with victory in the Confederations Cup Final restoring public faith in the team. As these ratings clearly illustrated.

In truth it was hard to find fault with any of the Brazilian players last night. From Julio Cesar pulling off some great saves, David Luiz last-gasp clearance, more industry from their holding midfielders, Fred in among the goals again and some lad called Neymar doing the business again, they deserve all the plaudits coming their way.

Not for a moment are we suggesting unbalanced journalism – in the same day that the Aussie media are campaigning for James Horwill and his ‘ludicrous’ judiciary hearing – but the player’s ratings were something to behold.

Every player involved got top marks, including Big Phil, while best of the Spanish was Pedro who scored 6, followed closely by Iker Casillas with 6. The rest won’t want to be checking their scores – if indeed they would turn to a Brazilian paper for such things – and it was clearly a night of celebration for the Samba Boys.

We know only too well the how divided player ratings can be from the Ireland games, but we doubt the Brazilian public will quibble too much over this.
