By all accounts the head injury that is likely to sideline Wayne Rooney for the next few weeks is a pretty serious one and it certainly doesn’t look too pretty from these pictures.
Rooney missed Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and will be absent for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine because of a head injury sustained in an accidental training ground clash with Phil Jones on Saturday.
Having seen it, reportedly via text message, England colleague Theo Walcott described it as like something out of a horror film. Rooney has since published a couple of photos of the gash on his Facebook page and they ain’t for the faint hearted.
Ouch.
