Now, we’re not about to say that there’s some suspicious results here, but…
The Nigerian Premier League table makes for some very interesting reading, particularly if you remember the other story of a pair of…shall we say unusual results we had from Nigeria a little while ago.
If you don’t remember that, then you’re in for a treat if you read the article, but essentially, two teams who needed to win and have a better goal difference than their rivals, Police Machine and Plateau United Feeders, ended up winning 67-0 and 79-0 respectively. Nothing suspicious about that…
Anyway, the Premier League table is a good bit away from the Amateur Division 4, but there are still some results that might raise a few eyebrows. In particular, there looks to be quite a bit of difference between the home form and away form of a number of teams.
In particular, Gombe United seem to have really struggled, scoring just four away while conceding 39, or Nembe City, who managed to get a muscular seven goals, but also conceded 41. Champions Kano Pillars were almost unbeatable at home, but only picked up six points on the road. They do say you do have to win your home games, we suppose.
Poor old Kwara United, the only team to have the temerity to win more than two matches away from home all year, ended up being relegated. Funny that. Now, as our lawyers have told us to make very clear, this doesn’t mean anything, but we can’t imagine too many fans bother going on the away trips in Nigeria anyway.
Hat-tip to 101greattgoals for the pic of the table
