Did you enter our recent Jameson Cult Film Club Blues Brothers screening competition and sadly come up short? Here what you from missed a spectular Tuesday evening...

Following on from the highly successful screenings of cult classics Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Alien and The Usual Suspects, the Jameson Cult Film Club returned to Dublin on Tuesday evening with an electrifying screening of the iconic musical comedy, The Blues Brothers.

The Jameson Cult Film Club were on a “mission from God” to transport the audience straight into the world of Jake and Elwood Blues and take it from us at JOE – who of course popped along – when we say that they delivered.

Dublin’s Vicar Street was unrecognisable after it was transformed into the film’s Joliet Correctional Centre, with menacing prison wardens barking orders to keep the queue of inmates in line.

Guests lucky enough to have secured their parole release were then ushered from the jail under the watchful eye of ‘armed’ prison guards whilst Jake and Elwood infiltrated the crowd to promote their one night only performance in the Palace Ballroom.

Characters from the movie, live theatre and special effects timed perfectly with on-screen action helped to create an electric atmosphere throughout the screening, including foam bricks dropping onto the laps of the unsuspecting audience during the bazooka scene and a live performance of the ‘We’re on a mission from God’ church scene complete with a preacher and dancers creating an incredible theatrical film experience.

Refreshing Jameson and Ginger cocktails along with authentic prison rations were served throughout the evening while renowned DJ Aidan Kelly took to the decks after the screening playing songs from the iconic soundtrack.

Enjoying the Jameson Cult Film Club Experience were rugby players Devin Toner, Isaac Boss, Jack McGrath and Leo Auva’a, actor/director David Coffey along with Sean Munsanje, Lottie Ryan, Carl Shabaan and the lucky winners of our JOE competition for tickets to the event.

For the uninitiated, Jameson Cult Film Club is all about watching your favourite cult films at spectacular screenings, staged to transport you into the film’s universe.

This is a free event for movie fans, so for details on the next Jameson Cult Film Club event, keep an eye on www.jamesoncultfilmclub.ie or be on the look out for when the next screening announced here on JOE.
