The first ever European group stage game for a League of Ireland side ended in disappointment on Thursday evening as Shamrock Rovers proved no match for Russian side Rubin Kazan at Tallaght Stadium.
Rovers must have been hopeful of a steady start to life in the Europa League but they were one down within two minutes when former Newcastle United man Obafemi Martins struck.
Kazan missed a penalty but were 2-0 up at the break following this unstoppable strike from Christian Noboa:

The visitors went further ahead after half-time through Gokdeniz Karadeniz and there was to be no consolation for Rovers with Stephen O’Donnell seeing his penalty saved.
