A baby believed to be the world's seven billionth was born in the Philippenes this morning at an event which included several UN officials.
Dania May Camacho was delivered just before midnight as October 31st began, the date that it had been estimated that the seven billionth world citizen would be born.
Weighing just 5.5 pounds, Danica and her mother Camille were greeted by UN officials who presented the child with a cake.
She looks so lovely," said mother Camille. “I can't believe she is the world's seventh billion."
Astonishingly, the sixth billionth baby was born just 12 years ago on October 12, 1999, in an event in which then-UN secretary general Kofi Annan attended the birth in a Sarajevo hospital.
The child born in 1999, Lorizze Mae Guevarra, has given her blessing to Camille Camacho’s new arrival, stating: “I am very happy to see this cute baby. I hope, like me, she will grow up to become healthy and well loved by everyone.”
