Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald will take some time off before he decides on his future at the helm of the Deise.

Waterford’s tilt at the All-Ireland title came to an end with a six-point defeat to Kilkenny in Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park.

And Davy Fitz, who has now spent four years at the helm, was not making any quick decisions on his next move in the aftermath of that defeat.

He said “I’m just so tired, I can’t even think about tomorrow hardly. And I haven’t thought about it. I’m shattered, I just want to go home and relax and just chill out. I can 100% tell you that I haven’t even thought about it and that is 100% fact.

“I have to say that I love dealing with that bunch of guys inside there. I really, really, really like it.

“I love dealing with the genuine people in Waterford who have supported me so much. I can’t say nothing, whether I am there next year or not – I don’t know.

“I couldn’t say enough about those lads. They have given me everything. After that Munster final the easiest thing they could have done was tell me to go scratch when I told them not to go out drinking and that I wanted them in Fraher Field the next morning – they didn’t.

“Very few teams would have done that. They took in on the chin and they came back. They are good and I have some pride in those guys. I’m so happy to be involved with them guys.”

Davy has guided Waterford to the All-Ireland semi-finals in each of his four years in charge, but they advanced to the final on just one occasion, in his first year in charge in 2008 when they suffered a heavy defeat to Kilkenny.

He has been linked with the vacant manager’s position in his native Clare, who are on the look-out for a new boss following the departure of Davy Fitz’s former All-Ireland winning team-mate Ger O’Loughlin.
