The FA have decided they won’t be rushed into picking their next manager and they will not appoint a full-time replacement until the season is over.
Speaking today the FA’s general secretary Alex Horne said: "We've got a list. Long, short.... there's definitely a list. It's a back-end-of-the-season decision for us.
"We recognise that a lot of the managers on the list are employed and we don't want to interrupt anyone's season. We're not rushing this and we are expecting something at the back end of the season."
We can all safely assume that they are referring to Harry Redknapp there but does this delay mean others could come into the frame? Jose Mourinho is tied up with Real Madrid right now but he looks likely to leave the Spanish capital at the end of the season. If Harry fancies staying at Spurs and leading them into Europe again next season then Roy Hodgson is the next English manager in the betting, and he too is currently at work but could be persuaded to leave West Brom in May.
Whoever does get the nod to replace Capello, it seems that they will have little time to get to know the squad before the tournament starts. Unless, of course, they give it to the man currently in the hot seat, Stuart Pearce, who has shortened in the betting following today's news.
Lots of life in this story yet it seems.
