The Australian Government is sticking to the mantra that a picture paints a thousand words with it’s latest anti-smoking campaign.

The Australians have taken a harder stance than most with their legislation stating that all packaging must feature images of sick babies, diseased feet and eyeballs. The name and logo of the cigarette company only gets a small, token area on the packet.
Australia has one of the lowest smoking rates in the world and the legislation could be adopted by other countries, and the Government claims that by removing any glamour associated with smoking, young people may be deterred from taking up the habit in the first place.

The Irish Independent says that the Government has been heavily influenced by recent studies that showed that if people have not started smoking by age 26, there is a 99 percent chance they will never take it up.
Some of the other images are a little more gruesome, but you get the idea.
