Stunning I Am Legend-style ‘The Last of Us’ debut trailer dazzles at 2011 Video Game Awards

Though The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim deservedly walked away with this year’s Game of the Year gong at the 2011 Video Game Awards, it was a debut title that stole the show.

On a night that featured debut trailers for a host of new titles, such as Gears of War developers Epic Games’ zombie-themed Fornite, gamers everywhere appear to be talking of only one thing this morning following last night’s awards: The Last of Us.

Coming from the same team as the stunning Sony exclusive series Uncharted, developers Naughty Dog brought the house down with a two-minute cut-scene that they claim was running on a Playstation 3 console.

The trailer itself showcases what appear to be zombies (yes, the zombie trend is unstoppable right now), a seemingly fortified safehouse and city overgrowth that recalls Will Smith’s Manhattan from I Am Legend. As we’re sure you’ll agree, those are three pretty good ingredients for an effective video game trailer.

Although plot details are thin on the ground, the game’s protaganists appear to be a grizzled male character (voiced by Uncharted hero Nathan Drake’s voice actor Nolan North) and an Ellen Page dead ringer, who even appears to be named ‘Ellie’.

No further details of The Last of Us have been revealed but we’d stake a claim on the game being released in time for Christmas 2012. Enjoy the trailer above.
