Queens Park Rangers have pledged their unequivocal support for Anton Ferdinand ahead of an FA investigation into allegations of racism on the part of John Terry.
The club have asked the FA to conduct an investigation into an incident which occurred in QPR’s shock win over Chelsea on Sunday, when Chelsea and England skipper John Terry is believed to have racially insulted QPR defender Anton Ferdinand (Want a closer look at what happened? Click here).
Terry had vigorously denied allegations of racism in the aftermath of the game, but the fact that a complaint was made to the FA would suggest that both Ferdinand and the club believe that something unsavoury was said and the England captain could be in trouble yet again.
His career has been littered with episodes of bad behaviour and this will only further dent his reputation in the eyes of the British public, although we’d imagine Wayne Bridge won’t mind him being taken down a peg or two.
QPR released a statement on the matter this evening, which read: “The Club is aware of an alleged racist incident in Sunday's Barclays Premier League fixture between QPR and Chelsea at Loftus Road.
“The Football Association are now expected to conduct enquiries into the alleged incident.”
QPR Chairman, Tony Fernandes, added: "Queens Park Rangers Football Club does not condone racism in any way, shape or form.
"As a Club, we will provide our players with our unequivocal support when alleged incidents like this occur.
"The Club has, and will continue to support Kick It Out's One Game, One Community initiative, football's equality and inclusion campaign.
"However, we are keen to draw a line under this alleged incident and focus on our forthcoming fixtures, starting with Sunday's London derby at Spurs."
The FA also confirmed that they had received a complaint and would be conducting an investigation into the matter.
They released a statement on the issue, saying: “The FA can confirm it has received a complaint relating to an alleged incident of racist abuse in the QPR versus Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.
“The FA will now begin to make enquiries into this matter.
“The FA takes seriously any allegations of discrimination and abuse of this type.
“No further comment will be issued at this time.”
