At the age of 30, Tadgh Kennelly has announced his retirement from Aussies Rules football.
The Kerryman has been tossing the idea around for the past few weeks but at a press conference last night, he made the final decision to call time on his career with Sydney Swans.
Kennelly became the first Irishman to ever win an AFL premiership back in 2005, when he famously did a jig on the victory dais.
He will play out the remainder of the season before kicking back in retirement.
"It's been a difficult decision. The last couple of weeks I've been battling with myself to figure out whether to play on or not," Kennelly told the press.
"But I've decided I'm in a good place at the moment and I'm quite happy to go out at the end of the season.
"I'm looking forward to playing Brisbane on the weekend and going deep into September."
In 2009, Kennelly returned home to Ireland to play a season with Kerry and fulfilled a life-long dream of winning an All-Ireland title with the Kingdom.
As for what he will do after he hangs up his boots in Oz, there was no mention of another return to Gaelic football and suggested a career in the media is the new direction.
"It's a pretty easy gig. Ask a few questions and go have some lattes in Coogee afterwards," he joked.
"That's what I want to do after footy."
