Some really sad news broke during the night, as the man best known for playing a tough New-Jersey crime lord in The Sopranos, James Gandolfini, died in Rome aged just 51.

Some really sad news broke during the night, as the man best known for playing a tough New-Jersey crime lord in The Sopranos, James Gandolfini, died in Rome aged just 51.

Fans of The Sopranos will be devastated to hear that James Gandolfini passed away last night while holidaying in Italy. HBO, the US cable network that produced The Sopranos, confirmed the star’s death saying he died of ‘a possible heart attack’.

“We’re all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family,” the network said in a statement. “He was a special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone, no matter their title or position, with equal respect.”

It really does come as a shock and reports say that Gandolfini had been working on a new HBO series titled Criminal Justice before passing away. It’s a sad loss.

Gandolfini is survived by his wife Deborah Lin, along with his son Michael and daughter Liliana.
