While in theory it was a good observation, NASA confirm that there is little they can do with Mentos and Coke in order to power space-rockets.
When Jamie Jones wrote to NASA suggesting a “breakthrough in awesome space rockets”, we doubt he could have banked on the reply he got from the organisation.
We have all been there, messing around with a packet of Mentos and Coca-Cola and enjoying the subsequent mini-explosion. No? Just us? Well, if you haven’t you really should try it.
With that in mind, Jones wrote to NASA suggesting that it could form the basis of a new type of space rocket, and judging by the references to his letter – complete with Mentos sweets glued to the letter for good measure – it was a well crafted piece to America’s space agency.
While we can’t be 100 per cent sure this isn’t a fake, others online have suggested the authenticity of it all, and the response we have to say is top notch.
