Champions League took the attention away from the transfer gossip, but still a fair bit going on with the likes of Alberto Aquilani, Joey Barton, while Chelsea don't look as if they're finished yet. Damien Comolli on Aquilani's move back to Italy: "I want to pay tribute to the way Alberto has conducted himself during these discussions.

"Throughout the entire process, his only desire has been to play football and he has put this ahead of any other considerations and at personal cost to himself.

"We wish him well for the season ahead."

Liverpool have confirmed that Alberto Aquilani will join AC Milan on loan. An option to buy the player has been included in the deal.

Sky Sports News reporting that Luka Modric is currently locked in talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. A last-ditch attempt to get that move to Chelsea after all?

"I've not made a final decision yet but, having spoken to the club, it's a club with ambition and I had to come down and hear what they had to say and go through the formalities of the medical side of it just in case something does happen."

Here’s a bit of business done early this morning. Sydney FC have confirmed the signing of Brett Emerton from Blackburn. The 32-year-old Aussie will play his last game for Rovers on Saturday against Everton.

Looks like Joey Barton will join QPR. He tweeted last night: "Don't want to leave Newcastle........I've made that clear but my hands are tied."

Juventus are believed to be set on ramping up their interest in Chelsea winger Florent Malouda, now that Juan Mata has arrived at Stamford Bridge. But the Frenchman doesn't seem too eager on leaving the club.

Get this: according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have had a loan bid rejected for Real Madrid's Kaka.

We're back again for another day of transfer news and rumours. First up this moning we're back on the curious case of Joe Cole, who makes €100,000 a week at Liverpool and doesn't do very much for it. We put him at around 17th in the pecking order of midfielders at the moment for Kenny Dalglish. Anyway, Harry Redknapp wants to bring the 29-year-old to Spurs.
