Obviously inspired by his phenomenal performances in Goal and Goal 2: Living the Dream, Tom Cruise has expressed his wish to make an action movie with David Beckham.

Now that his football days seem to be drawing to a close, a film career seems one of the likelier career paths for global superstar Beckham and who better to help him make his way in Hollywood than good buddy Tom Cruise?

Speaking at the premiere of his latest flick, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, in London, Cruise told The Mirror: “I’d love to do action movies with Beckham. He would be great, he could kick ass.”

A source for the paper added: “David has been linked with Hollywood a number of times but Tom is the only one he’d ever take up, he thinks Tom’s a legend.

“He’d still like to have a sporting element to it. Tom’s a sporty guy, too, so any collaboration would be about something competitive.”

Anyone that saw Becks – whose son Cruz may or may not bear some tenuous link to the crazy actor – deliver a couple of cringe-inducing lines in his cameos in the Goal films would doubt his capacity to light up the screen in the manner which he did on the pitch.

Turning him into a credible thespian is not a mission we’d choose to accept but Cruise believes otherwise, having suggested in the past that he would make “a great baddie”.

Then again, we’re dealing with a man who is capable of pulling stunts like this, so maybe he’s not one to be trusted.
