Tonight’s TV: Father Ted, Championship play-offs and Burn After Reading

You can’t beat a bit of Craggy Island, Brighton face rivals Crystal Palace and a Coen Brothers film is always a good idea.

You can’t beat a bit of Craggy Island, Brighton face rivals Crystal Palace and a Coen Brothers gem.

Main Pick: Fr Ted double bill, More4, 11.05pm

It doesn’t matter how many times you see them, Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews sitcom really never gets old. You will have seen both these episodes a good few times but that can almost add to the enjoyment of them at this stage.

First up is the ‘Brendan Grace’ episode, better known as ‘New Jack City’. From the banging jungle music to the excellent scene in the nursing home, this is one of the very best episodes.

One of the few that is even better is on straight afterwards as a plane load of priests get caught up in a mid-air emergency. Guaranteed post-pub laughs.

Sporting Pick: Crystal Palace v Brighton, Sky Sports 1, 7pm

The Championship play-offs are as near as you can get to a sure-fire football classic. For whatever reason, and despite the high stakes, these games are usually incident-filled, mad-cap affairs.

In this semi-final first leg there is the added bonus that both teams are genuine rivals and there is plenty of talent on show in both sides. Will Ian Holloway’s men get a vital away win or can Gus Poyet’s side take advantage of the Amex Arena? Should be a cracker.

Movie Pick: Burn After Reading, ITV4, 11.50pm

Okay it’s not nearly as good as Raising Arizona or The Big Lebowski but this flick is still a good laugh. With an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, the rather convoluted plot involves the CIA, secrets and Russians but don’t worry too much about the story, just enjoy some excellent performances.
