There’s plenty on offer on the box this Wednesday evening, including the first in the new series of The Apprentice and a crucial top of the table Premier League clash.
Main Event: The Apprentice, BBC 1, 9pm
OK, so the Irish one is probably a bit funnier because we’re a tad more prone to making fools of ourselves than our contemporaries across the water, but the English version of The Apprentice, with Alan Sugar filling Bill Cullen’s shoes, is slicker and classier and equally as compulsive to watch.
Tonight, the candidates are split into Boys v Girls as they sell their own designs on the streets of London. Keep your eyes peeled for former Kilkenny camogie player Jane McEvoy and a part-time wrestler called Martin, who calls himself “the reflection of perfection”. This should be fun.
Sporting Pick: Live Premier League Football: Manchester City v Chelsea, Sky Sports 1, 7pm
Coverage of round seven at The O2 in Dublin, featuring Andy Hamilton v Simon Whitlock, Adrian Lewis v Kevin Painter, Raymond van Barneveld v Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor v James Wade. This is the maiden appearance for the tournament at this venue, which also marks the halfway stage of the round-robin format.
Extra TV Pick: Other Voices, RTE 2, 11.15pm
The latest edition of this excellent live music production features St Vincent, the Coronas and Mick Flannery in performances that were filmed in Dingle back in December. There is also a set from the archive by Elbow, and Gypsies on the Autobahn in the IMRO Other Room. Aiden Gillen of The Wire, Game of Thrones and Love/Hate fame presents.
