Stoke City have found the key to breaching the notoriously tough to break down Southampton defence; get the goalkeeper to do it.
The Potters are known for their direct style and they took that approach to the limit in the first minute of their meeting with the high-flying Saints at the Britannia Stadium when Asmir Begovic’s clearance from inside his own box bounced over the head of Artur Boruc and into the net.
Boruc had only conceded three goals in the league prior to this afternoon so we shouldn’t go too hard on him and fair play to Begovic for not overdoing the celebrations, following the lead of the likes of Tim Howard – who has scored and conceded a similar type of goal in his career – by not rubbing it in his opposite number’s face.
