Video: Barcelona release brilliant video to celebrate Lionel Messi’s bumper new contract

Barcelona have just tied Lionel Messi down until 2018 and to celebrate, they’ve released a brilliant video looking back at highlights of the great one's time at the club.

The number of Lionel Messi videos on this site numbers well into the hundreds at this stage, but we never get tired of watching them and the latest one is one of the best yet.

Earlier this week – which, coincidentally we’re sure, just so happened to be on the same day as Cristiano Ronaldo’s birthday – Barcelona revealed that Messi had agreed a new deal with the Catalan giants that will see him remain at the Camp Nou until 2018.

Obviously thrilled that they had secured the services of one of the best players of all time for the next five years, Barca today released a video of Messi’s best bits in the red and blue, from his early days in La Masia right up to the present day, signing off with a brilliant shot of Messi posing alongside his four Ballon D’Or awards while his teammates show their appreciation for his brilliance.

Just in case you’re wondering, according to Sporting Intelligence, Messi’s contract is reportedly worth a basic of €16 million a year net, or €36.4 million a year before tax.

Worth every penny.
