Video: Brilliant, and completely unnecessary, one-handed catch from College Football

This is certainly the most flamboyant way we’ve ever seen to catch a restart.

This is certainly the most flamboyant way we’ve ever seen to catch a restart.

What makes this catch by LSU’s star receiver Odell Beckham so great is that he didn’t have to do it. He wasn’t diving for a TD, he wasn’t being closely guarded by a safety, he wasn’t even near scoring in fact.

Instead the future NFL star was tasked with catching a Georgia restart and for some bizarre but brilliant reason he decided to use just one hand to take the ball down.

He could have let it run out of play, but instead he performed the freak catch, and then duly knelt for the touchback.

As exceptional as it was pointless.
