When hard as nails former England hooker Richard Cockerill says this injury is the worst thing he has seen on a rugby pitch, you know it has to be bad. It is.

While the rest of us were nursing post Paddy’s Day hangovers and licking our wounds over the mauling at Twickenham, Leicester were beating Northampton in the LV Cup final across the water.

But Leicester boss Cockerill was more upset about an incident that occurred in the first half involving his man Rob Hawkins and Northampton flanker Calum Clark.

A normal enough looking ruck forms but it seems that Clark has seen one too many MMA fights as he applies what looks like an armbar on Hawkins. With no tapping out as yet introduced into rugby union, it resulted in a fractured elbow for Hawkins, meaning his season is over.

"If Calum Clark is deemed to have done it on purpose it's pretty horrendous," Cockerill told BBC after the game. "Something's gone on there but we'll let them [the citing commissioners] look at it and sort it out. It's a pretty poor act. I think it's really out of order and in my opinion it's as bad an injury as I've seen on a rugby field."

Well the lads up in the stands have had a look and Clark has indeed been cited. He has been charged with hyper-extending Hawkins’ arm and will face the music on Monday. He will likely face a very hefty ban.

In the clip above you can see Cockerill talking to Clark and he is believed to have told him that he will be out for a year over the incident. It’s hard to feel too sorry for him if he does.
