Video: Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher tore Newcastle a new one on Monday Night Football last night

It’s hard to argue with anything the two lads are saying here. Worrying stuff for Newcastle supporters.

It’s hard to argue with anything the two lads are saying here. Worrying stuff for Newcastle supporters.

Alan Pardew’s side have endured a miserable start to the Premier League campaign, finding themselves at the foot of the Premier League table after picking up just two points from their opening four matches.

They reached a new low when losing 4-0 to Southampton at St. Mary’s on Saturday, a game that featured defending as shambolic as you’re ever likely to see and an attitude from some players in black and white that suggested that they didn’t really give a toss.

The dire nature of Newcastle’s performance was really brought home when it was analysed in detail by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher last night, with Carragher getting particularly animated, using words like ‘shocking,’ ‘disgrace’ and expressing disbelief that many of their players were frequently spotted walking around when they should have been showing more urgency.

Is Newcastle’s lethargy the fault of under-fire manager Alan Pardew? Is it the players? Is it a combination of both? Whatever the case, they need to sort it out sharpish.
